SF Standard Unearths Gold Rush Ghosts

There’s nothing better to scare up a bunch of tourists around Halloween than a big media hit about Groveland’s somewhat shady past. The October 20 edition of The San Francisco Standard uncovered some rough-and-tumble Gold Rush towns filled with haunted hotels and eccentric saloons, Groveland included. And we’re darned proud of it!

The Groveland Hotel was called out as a hot spots for Halloween. We asked Groveland Hotel owner Ravji Shah about their legendary GroHo ghost, Lyle. Rajvi and her husband Amar Alapati own a number of historic, boutique hotels in rustic locations and Rajvi was quick to point out “all our properties have ghosts as they are historical properties. However, none as famous a story as Lyle’s has come to light.”

Eccentricity is a year-round attraction at the Iron Door Saloon and given its history as a former brothel, there’s certain to be more than a few skeletons behind THOSE doors this Halloween.

Tis the season to scare up some friends and visit all our local haunts!
